Its a Jungle Out There

Back in the day, a young Betsy would visit one small, funky place called "The Lost Bar". It was older, played lousy music that you couldn't help singing along to and served drinks in clear neon green plastic cups.
That little bar of my youth has grown up and become a tiki bar called "Trader Sam's" after the village headhunter on the Jungle Cruise (Any way you slice it, you come out ahead!). The inside is dark like a tiki bar should be, with fake windows full of dioramas that move when the correct drink is ordered. It's loud and rambunctious and some people love it. I, on the other hand prefer my tiki drinks outside, with breeze blowing through the palm trees and torches lit up. And when I order my drink, I almost always select the Hippopata Mai Tai. You can get it in a souvenir cup for extra money, or you can get it in the classy glass pictured below garnished with maraschino cherries and orange and save yourself a few handfuls of change... that you can put towards another drink.
Fruit juices and dark rum mingle perfectly. One sip and you are magically transported to a tropical island, the splashing of the near by pool turns into the waves lapping on the sand, the shouting of children becomes the chirping of exotic birds and you can truly stretch out and relax from your hectic day at Disneyland Resort. And remember, it's not a timid drink. It can pack a punch so please be responsible when heading back to skipper the Congo Queen around the Nile!

Before the Lost Bar, it was the Neon Cactus, which was my 20-something bar there!
ReplyDeleteNeon Cactus?! I'll have to do some research on that. It sounds pretty cool!
